What To Do If Your Skin Is Sunburnt?
Ayurveda believes that the entire universe is composed of five elements: Vayu (Air), Jala (Water), Aakash (Space or ether), Prithvi (Earth) and Teja (Fire). It emphasises the value of keeping these elements in perfect balance for a healthy mind and body. Sunburn is said to cause an overload in Teja (Fire), so the best way to tackle it is with cooling products.
Not too sure what cooling products can help? Well here are our top 4 ways to help relieve your sunburn…
- WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING
Wearing soft, loose, breathable clothing if your skin is sunburnt will help to avoid further irritation.
2. ALOE VERA
Aloe Vera is traditionally used to improve skin integrity, known for its anti-inflammatory, skin protection, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, and wound healing properties. If you have an Aloe Vera plant at home, try breaking off a piece and applying the gel directly to your skin for instant relief or grab pure Aloe Vera gel from your local supermarket.
3. CHAMOMILE TEA
Chamomile tea can be soothing to your spirit, but it can also soothe your sunburned skin. Drinking chamomile tea can help boost your skin's health from the inside out with its soothing anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Alternatively, brew the tea as normal and wait for it to fully cool. Then take a washcloth, soaked in the cooled tea, & dab it onto the affected areas.
4. PEPPERMINT OIL
Peppermint essential oil is a highly aromatic and versatile oil derived from the peppermint plant. The oil is known for its refreshing and cooling properties, making it a popular ingredient in various products such as soaps, shampoos, and toothpaste. Peppermint oil is also used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation and relieve headaches. It offers skin benefits by providing a cooling and soothing effect, which helps to calm skin inflammation and reduce the discomfort caused by sunburn.
